Mustang : The Forbidden Kingdom

Népal
'

The kingdom of Lo, better known by the name of Mustang, is a Tibetan enclave in the Nepalese territory. Located at the north of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs, it has always been the synonym of the Forbidden Kingdom for the Westerners. For many years, The Mustang remained an unknown land for the westerners. It was recently in 1952 that a foreigner, the Swiss geologist Toni Hagen, discovered Mustang.

The landscapes are typically Tibetan with high, dry and colourful wind-swept plateaus. The monsoon is very moderate but the winter is very hard. For sure, the Mustang is one of the most authentic destinations for the lovers of the Himalayas.

This 13-day trek requires you to be in good physical condition and goes through off-the-beaten-track paths. Going through villages, you'll walk along the Kali Gandaki, next to some troglodyte cities, and go through small passes situated beyond an altitude of 4000 m. You will meet herds of yaks and sheep and finally you'll arrive in the beautiful fortress city of Lo Manthang. Just next to Tibet, you'll can explore this area and visit the different villages, the surrounding monasteries and caves. To return to Jomosom, you'll take a different itinerary and discover the Hindu sanctuary of Muktinath, on the famous path of the « Annapurna go round ».
