City & Beach - From Java to Lombok

Your tour to Indonesia begins now! Land in Yogyakarta where you will be greeted by your driver who will transfer you to your hotel. Depending on what time you land you may prefer to simply sit back and settle into your hotel before enjoying dinner. For those looking for some immediate adventure, head out in the city and begin to explore Indonesia’s cultural capital. Streets decorated with stunning graffiti, coffee shops and charming restaurants by the handful and temples decorating the skyline… There’s always plenty to see!

Overnight in Yogyakarta.

Visit Kraton (the sultan's palace in Yogyakarta) and the Taman Sari Water Castle. Afterward, under the guidance of a local craftsman, you will take part in a 2-hour batik course in one of the village houses using traditional techniques to create your very own one-of-a-kind batik. In the evening, experience a street food tour in the Malioboro district and taste many Javanese traditional dishes.

Wake up early in the morning and set off to visit the UNESCO temple of Borobudur at sunrise, the largest Buddhist temple in the world and a highlight of your tour to Indonesia. Dozens of Buddhas sitting on five terraces and hundreds of meters of bas-reliefs make Borobudur a unique site not to be missed. A few minutes up the road, you continue your visit to the nearby temples of Mendut and Pawon and have breakfast in a local restaurant. You then go to Kota Gede, part of Yogyakarta's old town. Explore the Sewon and Plasoan temples before going to the Hindu temples of Prambanan. The panorama on the site is optimal at sunset.

In the evening you go to the Puri Wisata theater in Prambanan to watch a Ramayana performance in traditional costume. The Ramayana is a story in 48,000 verses telling the story of Rama, son of King Dasaratha, who went in search of his wife who was kidnapped by the demon Ravana. This is one of the fundamental writings of Hindu mythology.

Today you embark on a scenic train ride to eastern Java. After breakfast, your driver will bring you to Yogyakarta train station to board your train. Your guide will accompany you on the journey. This railway journey takes around five hours and passes through some of the country’s most beautiful and untouched sights.

Upon arrival in Malang, a local driver will be there to greet you and bring you to Trowulan, the site of the former capital of the Majapahit Kingdom who ruled the island of Java for centuries. Visit the archaeological museum and the temples of Candi Bajang Ratu and Candi Tikus. After the tour, proceed to Malang, en route stop for a late lunch at local restaurant.

Depart early in the morning from the hotel for a sunrise tour of Mt Bromo. You’ll travel by 4WD Jeep to a viewing spot with stunning views of the Bromo volcano and its surroundings. Watch the sun rise up from behind the volcano in Penanjakan then continue by Jeep down to the volcano caldera. Have breakfast at the lava viewpoint, then transfer to back to Malang.

Today you get to experience a cooking class: learn about the local ingredients, how they are produced and prepared, traditional cooking techniques and the fascinating kitchen myths of this unique culture. Afterwards, you go on a Becak city tour where you visit local markets and the Cathedral. At the end of the tour, your driver will bring you to Surabaya.

After breakfast, your local tour guide and driver will pick you up for a morning of sightseeing around Surabaya. Start your day with a walk around the lively streets of Chinatown, and see the famous Red Bridge before heading to the nearby Kampung Arab. This old district, also known as Ampel, is still largely occupied by descents of the old Arabic merchants who came to trade. Walk around the colourful Pasar Pabean Spice Market and have lunch at local restaurant. Afterward, transfer to Surabaya airport to catch your flight to Lombok. Upon arrival, your driver takes you to your hotel in Kuta Lombok.

Today is a free day designed for you to relax after your adventures. Your driver is available to take you to any of the quiet and pristine beaches along the southern coastline of Lombok. Kuta Beach has dramatic crystal clear waters and white sands, while the neighbouring Seger Beach is great for snorkelling or swimming; there is also a surf break for the avid surfers to enjoy. It is surrounded by beautiful hills which you can climb and find some great viewpoints. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and if you’re lucky, you may even be able to enjoy the whole beach to yourself.

Overnight in Kuta Lombok. Meals included: Breakfast

If you have relaxed and recovered and want to take a day excursion, we can arrange an excursion to discover Lombok's numerous waterfalls. Your driver can also take you to the foothills of the Rinjani volcano to find the most beautiful waterfalls camouflaged in dense vegetation. A getaway to relax and renew in the heart of nature! Return and overnight at the hotel.

The time has come to pack your bags and say goodbye. Avid surfers may try and catch the day’s first waves while coffee lovers will head to their favourite spot for a cup of freshly brewed Indonesian coffee.
