A wonderful and unique trip between the past and the present to understand the Western part of India.
Mumbai (formerly called Bombay) is India's largest city. Also famous as the heart of the Bollywood film industry, Mumbai is a city of diversity and amazing cuisine. During this first day, you take the time to explore on your own the city of dreams.
In the morning, you flight to Aurangabad and go back in time. You take a look at the treasures of the past, Bibi Ka Maqbara, a tumb build by a son for his mom and the palace of Panchakki.
Today you drive to the Ajanta Caves with your local guide. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a cluster of 30 rock-cut caves overlooking a gorge along the Waghora River. Ajanta caves depict the Buddhist culture and their stories through various sculptures and paintings.
You take the road to Ellora where you discover the 34 rock caves divided into three distinct groups: Buddhist, Hindu and Jain. This masterpiece of architecture wasn't built, it was carved into the cliff and worked on it for centuries!
You fly back to Mumbai and we hope you’re hungry! Mumbai is famous across India for its outstanding street food and you experience the city’s flavours that please the taste buds and go easy on the stomach, guided through Mumbai’s two renowned street food areas.
We’ll start at Mumbai’s most famous beach, Chowpatty, where we’ll try an array of Mumbai’s best vegetarian street food as we watch the sunset. We’ll have classics such as Dahi puri, Pani puri and pav bhaji. Then we’ll take a short taxi ride to the lively Mohommad Ali Road area. In this predominantly Muslim neighbourhood, we’ll introduce you to the local culture and, of course, the delicious food. In the bustling Ali Khao gaullis (eating lanes) you will find mainly non-vegetarian options such as Chota kebabs and chicken tikka.
Last day to explore the city on your own. You start with a visit of Prince of Wales Museum or Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai. Then you spend some time at Crawford Market and Chor Bazaar. Observe the comings and goings of "dabba walas" who bring their lunch boxes to the employees of Mumbai.
