Traditional Newari Villages
In the morning, you leave Kathmandu to go to Bhaktapur, an ancient royal city located not far from the Nepalese capital. This city is often called by its old name: Bhadgaon. Affected by the earthquake of April 2015, it still has three beautiful squares lined with temples, the most important of which have survived. The famous 5-storey temple, the Nyatapola Temple still stands in the heart of Taumadhi Tole. Here, the Bisket Jatra Festival (Nepalese New Year) is held every year. You then continue to the traditional Newari villages of Bungamati and Khokana, each with their own speciality: Bungamati is famed for its skilled woodcarvers, while Khokana has built a reputation for its mustard oil. Enjoy a genuine experience exploring these two villages and observing scenes of traditional life before returning to Kathmandu.
Bandipur, the hilltop village
This morning your driver takes you to Bandipur where you enjoy this free day as you wish. This beautifully-preserved village, built on a ridge, is today a living museum of Newari culture. Indeed, its alleys are lined with traditional houses and, here, time seems to have stood still. With its glorious 13th century architecture, Bandipur is a vibrant community where travellers mingle with local farmers and traders. The village was originally part of the Magar Kingdom of Tanahun and was an important stopover on the trade route between India and Tibet until the 1960s.
Pokhara, the jewel of the West
After enjoying your breakfast in your hotel in Bandipur, you take the road in the company of your private driver towards Pokhara. The setting is beautiful, with the emerald green sparkle of Lake Phewa in the foreground and the Himalayas in the background. The program of this day remains free, so listen to your desires! The city is a true haven of peace which marks the start of the Annapurna treks and where travellers can expect to receive a warm welcome from the inhabitants. Night at the hotel.
Family hike to the village of Dhampus
This morning, your driver will bring you to Phedi. Here, your local guide accompanies you on a family hike towards the village of Dhampus. You ascend for about 3 hours through lush forests, country villages and pretty farm terraces before arriving at your destination. The village offers a superb panoramic view of the mountain ranges of Machhapuchhare and Annapurnas. After enjoying these fabulous landscapes with the family, you return to Phedi where your driver awaits you and takes you back to Pokhara to spend the night there.
Free day in Pokhara
Today, you enjoy another free day in Pokhara to take the time to rest, or not! The city, a real place of relaxation, has also in recent years become an ideal place for adventure sports. With the surrounding mountains and lakes, the setting offers a wide range of activities: paragliding, boating, mountain biking ... something to delight the whole family. Pokhara is also a superb city where life is good and you will find numerous bars and restaurants offering a beautiful atmosphere, full of sharing and tranquillity. Night at the hotel.
From Kathmandu to Terai
This morning, you leave Kathmandu and head towards the Terai region, the great Nepali plain that borders India. Your driver will take you to the Chitwan National Park, a former hunting reserve that became Nepal's first national park in 1973. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984, the park is home to exceptional wildlife. With the snow-capped Himalayas as a backdrop, this magical place is popular with travellers looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. You settle down in your lodge and enjoy a drink at sunset in front of the river!
In the heart of the jungle
Today, your schedule for the day is fairly free, allowing you to do activities that you didn't do the day before. So according to your desires, you can opt for a Jeep safari accompanied by a naturalist guide who will show you the rare animals that inhabit the region: elephants, rhinos or the famous Bengal tigers. One of the most entertaining activity for children and which marks a memorable moment of your family trip to Nepal.
Back to the Nepalese capital
This morning, you set off towards Kathmandu, accompanied by your private driver. Once you arrive at the hotel, take the opportunity to enjoy a stroll through the narrow and breathtaking alleys of the country's capital. This is the perfect opportunity to find gifts, souvenirs and take one last look at the amusing mess that is the traffic here: between sacred cows, mopeds and rickshaws.
